From Rose Hill to ‘Cocoa With the Popo’…Owensboro Snow Days, Past and Present
On Facebook recently, my sister reminisced about sledding down Rose Hill here in Owensboro when we were kids. At present, Rose Hill Cemetery is the only thing left from that time. The adjacent hill was leveled, and the property is now populated with medical offices.
But yes, on snowy days when there was no school, a bunch of us from the neighborhood would trek up that hill and spend the day sledding down it. And I don't ever recall getting tired of climbing back up the hill to do it all over again.
Those were the days. Lots of great memories
Cocoa With the Popo
In 2026, thanks to the Owensboro Police Department, lots of kids here in town will have awesome memories to share in future social media posts, thanks to Cocoa With the PoPo, a nickname that had not yet caught on during their first delivery from Dunkin' Donuts, which, by the way, donated the cocoa for the cause. Kids and families enjoying some sledding next to Ollie's on West Parrish Avenue and at Horse Fork Creek Park got a real treat on Monday.
Nope, the clever moniker came into play yesterday when the officers from the OPD stopped by Starbucks, which generously donated several boxes of hot cocoa for sledders and their families.
Now, all we need to do is figure out how to build a time machine, head back several years, and plant this seed of thought right smack dab in the middle of my childhood.
