Relief at Last as Kentucky and Indiana Prep for Early Autumn-Like Temperatures This Weekend
Do you want to know how memorable comfortable summers are for me? A group of friends and I went camping on multiple occasions in the summer of 2004. I'll never forget that summer because the average temperature in July, for example, was below normal. In my opinion, although we've had decent summers since then, we haven't had one as mild in my memory.
One of the Hottest Kentucky Summers I Can Remember
It's hard to imagine a Kentucky or Indiana summer like that considering what we've been through this summer. We are currently in the middle of our third heat wave. Fortunately, however, there's a much sooner end in sight than the one that blasted us in July.
During the last three, hellish months of summer heat, we've only had a three-day break from the heat. It came during the first weekend of August, and I mistakenly took it as as bellwether for better things to come, meteorologically speaking. Better late than never, I guess. It seems, regarding the heat, August will come in and go out like a lamb.
Late August Cool-Down
I know that looking down the road 5 to 10 days can be fruitless when it comes to weather prognostication. But if what I've been seeing from a variety of meteorologists on Facebook, we are in for a most welcome and relieving drop in temperatures and humidity during the last week of the month. This is getting me very excited.
What Meteorologists Say About Cooler Temperatures Ahead
Thank you Eyewitness News Chief Meteorologist Wayne Hart for the phrase "early autumn-like air." I was fine settling for "cooler temperatures," but he brought home what we're all thinking and hoping for. So did these guys.
And leave it to a storm chaser to post a very dramatic forecast of what's to come.
A cold front is expected to push through our area mid-week, dropping high temperatures into the 80s for Thursday. It's remarkable how few days the highs have been that low this summer, but I am here for it. No complaints like, "It's about time," from me. I'll just be very thankful and hope against hope that this is the beginning of a steady move into fall weather.
