This Beautiful Hidden Gem Is Known as the ‘Maldives of Kentucky’

I don't know the name of the travel agency The Price Is Right works with, but they sure do give the iconic game show a lot of vacations to the Maldives to give away. I often wonder how many people who win those trips even know where it is or if they've ever heard of it. I'm not diminishing anyone's intelligence, but it's not like it's the most well-known island nation on the planet.

Where Are the Maldives?

Since we'll be discussing this beautiful resort destination in the middle of the Indian Ocean, let's familiarize ourselves with it.

It's pretty spectacular, isn't it? I mean, good grief. Just gorgeous.

Dale Hollow Lake -- the 'Maldives of Kentucky'

Now, based on those TPIR episodes, vacations to this little slice of paradise are very pricey. If you can swing it, go for it. If not, Kentucky offers up its own version. In fact, this beautiful lake is KNOWN as the "Maldives of Kentucky." Straddling the Kentucky-Tennessee state line, Dale Hollow Lake State Park is a nearby (enough) resort that always gets high marks from its visitors. And why not? Take a look:

I'm one of those "veg out by the water" types, but I'd have to put that into an itinerary during a Dale Hollow visit. With available activities like golf, putt-putt, birding, eagle watching (winter is the best time, by the way), fishing, hiking, boating, horseback riding, and caving as options, you can see why.

Who knew you could find a little Indian Ocean charm in southeastern Kentucky?
