I Wish KY Drivers Would Stop Making This Kind But Dangerous Gesture

I have to tell you, it feels a little weird writing up a complaint I have about drivers performing a kindness. Some folks just turn into jerks when they get behind the wheel; cutting you off, flipping the bird, tailgating. So yeah, if someone is doing something out of the goodness of their heart, you hate to ask them to stop. But I'm GOING to ask them to stop, even if it does no good.

Right of Way Laws in Kentucky

Let's begin with right of way. I learned what the laws are regarding this matter when I took driver's education in high school. I have never forgotten them, but some have.

But if the driver on the left gets there first, they get to go through the intersection first. Yet, I've had any number of experiences in which I arrive at the intersection much later (relatively speaking) than the motorist on the left, and they will sit there until I go through. I appreciate that, but they have the right of way, and I wish they would take it. It's much safer than a guessing game.

A Much More Dangerous Traffic Practice

Then there's this. I'll be driving northbound on, say, Frederica Street, and I'll want to turn left into a parking lot. The driver in the inside southbound lane stops to let me turn, but the vehicles in the outer southbound lane don't stop. And they don't have to. I appreciate this kindness, but it's really dangerous. Twice in the last month I've almost witnessed an accident on the strength of this practice. The image below might better explain what I mean.
