I gotta tell ya, I don't know where to begin. Fairs just seem to bring out the kid in all of us, don't they? The rides, the fair food, the exhibits, the events. I love it! The first time I ever rode The Spider was at the Daviess County Fair. At some fairs or amusement parks it's called The Octopus; at Holiday World, it's Paul Revere's Midnight Ride. But for my first experience, it was The Spider.  The first time I ever ate a buffalo burger was at the Daviess County Fair--and it was really good. Unfortunately, I haven't had one since. Guess I know what I need to do. And the first--and only--time I ever did my Gary-Cooper-as-Lou-Gehrig-in-Pride-of-the-Yankees impersonation was at the Daviess County Fair. I'll explain. I was emceeing a rodeo some years back at the fair. I was at the microphone making announcements. What I didn't realize was that there would be a delay--and a pretty good-sized one at that. So when the words I was saying started coming through the loud speakers about 2 seconds after I spoke them, I just stumbled all over myself. I'm pretty sure I sounded like my tongue was numb. But, hey, it was good for a laugh. And that always works. I bet everyone has a favorite memory of the fair. And if not, you have all week to make one. Here's the schedule; now let the fun begin!
