The moment area fishing enthusiasts have been waiting for arrives this week.  Throughout the year, lakes at Daviess County parks are stocked with fish so that folks have something to catch.

This is an ongoing partnership with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources called FINS or Fishing in Neighborhoods program. The goal is to encourage exploration of the great outdoors without having to travel too far from home.

If you are an avid fisherman, you may already have a favorite spot that is hidden from crowds, but if you like to go to county parks like Yellow Creek Park or Panther Creek Park, those lakes stay stocked because of FINs. Approximately 750 Rainbow Trout are going to be moved on Thursday, February 13th into each lake.

At other times of the year, these same fishing lakes are stocked with catfish while other types like sunfish and bass are monitored and stocked as needed. To prevent people from coming in and gathering up all the fish, daily catch limits are posted as well as other regulations for fishing these public lakes.
You can find more information about those rules as well as requirements for state fishing licensing and permits to keep certain types of fish like rainbow trout at the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Fishing in Neighborhoods website.
