The Daviess County Parks Department will be hosting a "Take A Kid Fishing" event this weekend and the community is invited.

On Saturday, June 5, grab the kids, put down all the electronics and unplug from social media for a morning of fun and memories.

In years past there has been lunch and a t-shirt but this year they will only be fishing.  The event will not measure or weigh the fish due to health concerns but families are still encouraged to come out for a good time.

Fishing is totally FREE!  If you preregister your child they will be entered into a drawing for prizes.

The event will take place at Panther Creek Park from 9-11 a.m.

This weekend also happens to be a free fishing weekend in Kentucky and Indiana.  This means that you are not required to have a license or permit to fish.  This means Ky residents and even non-residents are allowed to fish at any waterfront public property.  If you don't have a license and would like to here is how you can get one.

If you live here in Kentucky there are hundreds of different bodies of water to take the family fishing.  You could even make a day or weekend out of it and plan a camping/outdoor trip for everyone.

Don't forget to take sunscreen, a cooler, chairs, a towel, a first aid kit, and snacks.  If you are taking young children take the time to teach them as you are preparing them to go.  Allow them to help you gather all the supplies, bait the hook, and of course, let them reel in the big ones.

Most importantly, HAVE FUN!
