As a native of Owensboro, Kentucky, I have always thought our town's name was unique. Honestly, until a few years ago, I had no idea there was another Owensboro here in the United States. If my memory serves me correctly, I was typing my location into AccuWeather to get the forecast. Naturally, Owensboro, Kentucky popped up first. However, right below it was another Owensboro. Owensboro, Georgia! Who knew??

WHEN WAS OWENSBORO, KENTUCKY FOUNDED?

Now, before we compare apples to apples, let's talk about the Owensboro I live in. We're currently the fourth largest city in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. We're situated right on the Ohio River south and west of Louisville. We actually used to be the third largest city in the state, but we were eclipsed by Bowling Green a few years back. The population in our city limits is roughly 60,000 people and the city dates all the way back to 1797, when it was originally settled as 'Yellow Banks'. Twenty years later, it was established as Owensborough. Today, it's Owensboro.
The city isn't huge, but it is when you compare it to Owensboro, Georgia. That Owensboro is nestled in Wilcox County, which is located in the south-central part of that state. Here's some perspective for you. Daviess County, which houses Owensboro (KY), has an estimated population of 116,000 people. Wilcox County, which houses Georgia's Owensboro, only has a population of roughly 9,000 people.
