Do You Remember These Classic Christmas Commercials?
We all remember the magic of being a kid this time of year. As a millennial, some of my favorite Christmas memories are watching specials on TV like Claymation Christmas, Rudolph, and A Charlie Brown Christmas. Of course, that meant also seeing commercials for toys I could ask Santa for, or stores we could shop.
You don't realize how effective advertising is until you hear an old commercial that sends you right back in time to childhood. I may not remember what I did yesterday or why I walked into a room at any given time, but you better believe I can still sing the Folgers jingle. And whatever happened to Peter and the family?
The other day, we were streaming a show and a throwback Hershey's Kisses commercial came on. Remember this one where the kisses are a choir of bells? They play We Wish You A Merry Christmas. So simple, but super nostalgic. It got me thinking about other memorable holiday ads
Like these fast-food restaurant ads for the holidays. I still have a couple of those McDonald's Christmas ornaments. We hang them on the tree every year.
This one was before my time, but how cool to have Johnny Cash in this Lionel train commercial. I read in the comments of the video that Lionel trains were the holy grail of Christmas presents for boys.
Not gonna lie, I could never decide whether this was clever or creepy as a kid, but it definitely made me want some Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup!
Here's a video with HOURS worth of retro Christmas commercials. Put this on while you wrap presents. You'll enjoy the memories that flood back as each catchy jingle plays. It's also a wild reminder of how little things cost decades ago.
