Memphis Burger Gem: Insider’s Look At Dyer’s On Beale Street
If you're headed to Memphis anytime soon, I have a recommendation for you. Honestly, this popular burger joint- situated right on Beale Street- is an annual destination for me when I go to the St. Jude Country Cares conference. My friends and colleagues are obsessed with it and we routinely take over a table or two.
Yes, Memphis is known for its BBQ, but we go for the burgers. Dyer's is our must-visit restaurant each year.
Dyer's was established back in 1912 by the late Elmer "Doc" Dyer. Doc developed "a secret cooking process" for his burgers. Those burgers, because of it, are now world famous. The secret?
Well, it may not sound appetizing to everyone, but it certainly gets the job done. See, Doc never changed the cooking grease and, according to Dyer's official website and Memphis urban legend, that century-old grease is still there, strained daily, and continues to "produce juicy Dyer's Burgers."
That's my friend Mary-Katherine. She had one of those juicy burgers last night.
I did too!
That, my friends, is a Dyer's Double Double Combo with two meats and two cheeses. Look at the grease! I can't even explain how delicious their burgers are.
While Dyer's is home to world famous burgers, they have much more on the menu to choose from.

A popular favorite of my squad is the Deep Fried P.B.&J. As you can see, it's technically listed as a "dessert," but several of my friends and colleagues have it as a main course. My friend Matt enjoyed this beauty last night.
It's delicious! Every thing about Dyer's is delicious and you should go.
Dyer's is located at 205 Beale Street in Memphis directly across from W.C. Handy Park.
