It does my heart good when road trip ideas fall into my lap. That happened earlier today when I discovered a Tennessee destination that had escaped my notice. Typically, Tennessee destinations don't do that, but the Volunteer State has so much to offer, so I can't be too surprised.

Earth Experience

Gazillions of visitors from all over the world descend upon Nashville every summer. Well...every season, I guess. But Music City seems to go the extra mile this time of year. But if you're spending any length of time in Nashville, don't miss out on a short drive down Interstate 24. You'll land in Murfreesboro, home of Earth Experience - Middle Tennessee Museum of Natural History. What a great way to have fun and, for the kids, absorb a little education along the way.

With Jurassic World Rebirth making an unsurprising killing at the global box office, this summer seems like the perfect time to visit this unexpected but completely appropriate companion piece.

Earth Experience is open Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 4 PM and offers guests an in-depth look at archaeological relics from all over the world (Antarctica and Madagascar are long-distance examples), as well as fossils, bones, and minerals that help tell the tale of Tennessee's ancient history.

An interactive museum, Earth Experience, allows patrons to see and touch several exhibits. And you can't leave without a "meet & greet" with Frank, the 38-foot-long T. Rex skeleton. Take a gander at the big fellow, center bottom...

In nine short years, Earth Experience has collected numerous relics and exhibits with more and more to come. Don't miss out.

LOOK: Musicians with their own museums

Some musicians live on beyond their music. Stacker looked at 25 artists who have at least one museum dedicated to their life and work.

You Can Stay in a Lighthouse on an Island in Tennessee, Seriously!

When I first saw photos of this Airbnb listing, I thought for sure it had to be fake.  I mean come on, a lighthouse on a private island with Smoky Mountain views? This sounds like a dream, but it's real!
