Annoying KY Bug Is a Crunchy Snack Across the Globe
I suppose I'm not doing this whole stink bug problem thing right. Yes, I've seen plenty of stink bugs in our house over the years, but I've never had such an overwhelming issue that I had to call someone to take care of it.
I've also never accidentally smashed one or dealt with an unpleasant odor. Usually, they seemingly appear out of nowhere and hardly move at all, and then I gently walk them outside and let them cavort with all their stinky friends.
But I could eat them. I mean, I WON'T, but I could. It's not a crazy idea in certain corners of the world. And it doesn't happen because they've run out of everything else to eat. They're considered tasty snacks packed with protein (just like all insects.) But do you pop them in your mouth?
I suppose you could; again, they're bugs and LOADED with protein. And I remember an incident several years ago where I watched a friend eat a chocolate-covered cricket and exhorted me to do the same thing. I respectfully declined.
But it's clear many don't, or they wouldn't go to the kind of trouble you see here. You'll want to skip to the 5:30 mark when the meal preparation begins. (I can't believe I just wrote that.)
I guess that if you have THAT many stink bugs in your home, you probably WILL be contacting an exterminator. I'm also guessing your first thought WON'T be, "Gee, what kind of side dish goes with sauteed stink bugs?"
