Tonight, the Marilyn & William Young Charitable Foundation will be celebrating its 20th anniversary by featuring the work of area schools that participated in the Foundation's Student Leadership Grant Program.  Here at WBKR, we have dedicated a few days on the morning show to highlighting some of the schools and students who participated.

This morning, we were joined by  Miguel Aguilar, a senior at Emerson. He is from Emerson Academy, who brainstormed how to used their grant funds to RakeADifference here in Owensboro!  They spent time on a variety of projects in their neighborhood.  They raked leaves for neighbors who "paid" them in canned goods and non-perishable food items.  Students then took those supplies and created food baskets and distributed them for Christmas.  They also gathered supplies for the St. Benedict's Homeless Shelter and more.  And, this spring, the students will host an open house to invite folks in the neighborhood to come by and see the school, meet the students and faculty and experience the difference Emerson Academy is making in the community.

The Marilyn & William Young Foundation's Student Leadership Grants Celebration is set for Monday, January 27th from 4pm to 6pm in the lobby of the RiverPark Center in downtown Owensboro.  Each school in the Davies County Public, Owensboro Public and Owensboro Catholic School Systems were invited to accept a grant of $1000 last year to complete service projects in our community.  Monday will highlight the amazing ways those grants were used.

It's our pleasure and honor here at WBKR to showcase a few of those service projects!
