Empty Bowls of Owensboro Hosting Annual Soup Dinner to End Hunger

According to the most recent statistics provided by Feeding America, in Kentucky, 710,000 people are facing hunger - and of them 208,330 are children. That means one in six adults and one in five children go without adequate nutrition on any given day. Just heartbreaking.

No one should ever have to worry about where their next meal will come from or rationing Ramen to make it to payday, but unfortunately, that is a harsh reality a lot of people face. That is why I am so thankful for Empty Bowls of Owensboro and the work they do raising money for organizations doing their part to end hunger in the area. Last year, they raised $34,000 to be split between First Christian Church and King's Table.

One of the ways in which they gather funds is through their annual soup dinner which happens this Thursday at the Riverpark Center, October 17th at 6 PM. Thanks to generous donors, this creative fundraiser brings the community together in a really special way. You get to choose a one-of-a-kind bowl to eat that soup in and then take it home as a reminder of the gift you gave and the people who are helped by your support. This year's recipients are Beverly's Hearty Slice and Lourdes Backpack Ministry.

"Owensboro area (and beyond!) potters, students, and community members create beautiful, ceramic bowls which are purchased for a donation to include a simple dinner of soup and bread. Proceeds from the dinner and a silent auction remain in the community and are awarded to local food pantries or soup kitchens that aid in our mission and goal."

Yours truly will be the emcee for the evening and Jeff Hardesty will provide entertainment. Last year's recipients will also give an update on how the funds have been utilized.
