I have long been impressed with the work done at the It Takes a Village No-Kill Rescue Center in Evansville and in Spencer County in Chrisney. Their mission statement tells the tale.

To work as one in helping animals irrespective of breed, location or circumstance, while also supporting the people who love animals.

It Takes a Village

Created in 2010, It Takes a Village has helped more than 10,000 animals since its opening, a staggering and impressive achievement, a massive high point across 15 years worth of high points. In January of 2025, it was another noteworthy move as It Takes a Village assumed operation of the Daviess County Animal Shelter. And now they can share exciting news, as It Takes a Village No-Kill Rescue has announced the opening of its third shelter, the first in Daviess County.

It Takes a Village in Owensboro

Now, it isn't a new facility. In fact, it was called Daviess County Animal Care and Control, and I've visited multiple times. It's always nice to be surrounded by all those furry friends. But now It Takes a Village has assumed control and is celebrating, as they should.

Get ready for some exciting news! We're thrilled to announce that our 3rd rescue center location in the tristate area is now open in Owensboro, KY. This shelter was previously known as Daviess County Animal Care and Control, and we're honored to take on this new responsibility. To showcase our commitment, we'll be going live to share the amazing changes we have in store. One of the highlights is the reopening of the reduced-cost spay and neuter clinic, making it accessible to everyone. Be sure to tune in and share with others so they can follow our journey!!

And what about this for some exciting news? While foster homes are still needed, every adoptable dog has been sponsored.

Congratulations to It Takes a Village, and thank you for accepting this responsibility of finding homes for all these amazing animals.
