Owensboro City Police have charged a local Family Dollar employee with theft and falsely reporting an incident.  They claim the worker fabricated a story about an armed robbery attempt at the store to cover up her own theft.

According to an OPD press release, authorities responded to the Family Dollar location at 2415 West Parrish Avenue just before 8am this morning.  They were responding to a report of an alleged armed robbery.  After interviewing the employee who made the call, she admitted to making up the story and stealing money from the company over the course of several months.

Police have charged 39-year-old Carmilla Settles of Owensboro with Theft by Failure to Make Required Disposition of Property over $500 and Falsely Reporting an Incident.
