Flash Freeze Expected for Owensboro, Tri-State Saturday Night
I was watching Eyewitness News meteorologist Ron Rhodes this morning and he was talking about windshield wipers. And here's why:
On Saturday night, we are expecting a "flash freeze" in Owensboro and the tri-state and Ron suggested we life our wipers so they don't fuse to our windshields.
I think I saw this scene in The Day After Tomorrow.
Anyway, he warned that, on Saturday night, the temperature is expected to drop about 25 degrees in an hour's time.
So, boom, just like that, car-sicles and leaf-sicles and whatever's-outside-and-can-be-considered-susceptible-sicles.
I have to admit, if it happens fast enough to actually SEE the freezing, that will be very interesting and camera-worthy.
Here's what the National Weather Service is saying right now about Saturday afternoon into Saturday night:

A very potent storm system is expected to move east into the region on Saturday. After a dose of moderate rains and even a few thunderstorms late Friday night into the day Saturday, much colder air will rush into the region from northwest to southeast Saturday afternoon and evening. Rain is expected to change over to snow during the afternoon over portions of southeast Missouri and southern Illinois, then farther southeast along the Ohio River during the early evening hours. Though it is still to early to pinpoint exact amounts, there is now increasing confidence in the potential for at least some accumulating snows, especially over portions of southeast Missouri, and in locations along and north of the Ohio River. Blustery north winds Saturday night could lead to some blowing snow, and will drive temperatures down into the teens and 20s. In addition, wind chill values by Sunday morning are expected to reach the single digits and lower teens in many areas.
Bundle up. We're looking at a VERY cold weekend.
And you could also look at this way...if necessary, you'll suddenly have one GREAT BIG extra freezer available.
