The Junior League of Owensboro is gearing up for a huge event here in town. Free Laundry Day is set for Saturday, September 21st and will continue an initiative that is making a big impact in the fight against hygiene poverty.

It was April of 2023 that Junior League of Owensboro hosted its first Free Laundry Day events at two local laundromats here in town. Those initial outings were a huge success and many local families were served by the effort. The League provided $1300 worth of free loads of laundry that day, plus free food and fun activities for the kids who joined their parents at the laundromat.

Earlier this year, in February and in April, Junior League held two more events and were able to provide even more free laundry services. Junior League Executive Director Jen Vogel estimates that each successfully provided about $1400.

Free Laundry Day has become an essential component of the Junior League of Owensboro’s mission to combat hygiene poverty, an increasing problem here in Daviess County and surrounding areas. Truthfully, it's a problem that exists in nearly every community in Kentucky. Here, on their home turf, the Junior League is rallying their troops to fight it. Free Laundry Day, along with education efforts, has been a powerful tool in that arsenal.
