Two Free Laundry Events Planned for Owensboro, KY This Weekend
On Monday, The Junior League of Owensboro launched their 2023 Little Black Dress campaign. Typically, the Junior League appoints a local nonprofit to be the recipient of funds generated by this impactful initiative, in which members of the league wear the same black dress (or black outfit) for five consecutive days. That "little black dress" is worn to bring attention to the plight of women, in various circumstances, who find themselves in situations where they have only that symbolic piece of clothing to wear from day to day.
For example, recent recipients of the campaign have included My Sister's Keeper, which is an emergency shelter for women and children here in Owensboro, and New Beginnings Sexual Assault Services, which provides free therapeutic sessions to victims of rape and sexual abuse.
This year, the Junior League is using the money raised by Little Black Dress to fund their own initiative. The league has recently launched a public awareness campaign and waged war against hygiene poverty and have been on a focused mission to curb it.
Part of that mission to end hygiene poverty has included some exceptionally successful free laundry events here in town. In fact, because they have been so successful and effective, the Junior League plans to cap Little Black Dress Week with two additional laundry events, which are set for Saturday, October 28th.
