Test Your Christmas Creativity in KY: Gingerbread House Contest

Do you love to bake and decorate cookies? Do you love a creative project? Do you love winning cash prizes?

The Muhlenberg County Tourism Commission (MCTC) is gearing up to host the “Gumdrops on Rooftops” Gingerbread House Decorating Contest & Showcase again this year. Over $3,000 in cash prizes are up for grabs and lots of holiday fun. The contest is FREE to enter, has multiple age divisions, and is open to contestants from anywhere!

Individual divisions include adult (18+), teen (13-17), pre-teen (10-12), and youth (6-9), with cash prizes for the top 3 spots! There are also divisions for Pastry/Professional Chefs, Civic/Business/Religious Organizations, and Families. The deadline to enter is December 9^th,so you better get your apron on and get to baking! The event is slated for December 13^th & 14^th and will be held at the Muhlenberg County Extension office located at 3690 State Route 1380 Central City, KY 42330. Contestants can deliver and set up their fabulous cookie creations from 4-6 PM on Friday. Then the judging begins! I'm super excited to be on the panel this year and get to join in on the festive fun!

MCTC shared, "On Saturday, December 14^th the event begins at 10:00 am and continues until 2:00 pm with fun and gingerbread all day! The event will host an exclusive visit from Mrs. Clause with treat bags for all the kiddos (while supplies last). SOAR will also be onsite with FREE books (while supplies last) and will offer FREE games & prizes and photos with a gingerbread friend."

As always, each of these activities is FREE to enter as a contestant or spectator, but all are encouraged to remember the spirit of Christmas and giving. Donations will be accepted for the 4-H Backpack Program. They are twenty-two years strong providing food for almost at-risk youth throughout the county. MCTC Chairperson, Mary Kate Kordes says “We are thrilled to bring back this fun event to our community while supporting the 4-H Backpack Program in the process.”
