What the Hooters Bankruptcy Means for Its KY, IN, IL Locations
Frankly, I always wondered how they even got AWAY with calling it Hooters. I remember seeing the early commercials in the 1980s and hoping my mother didn't see them. Well, that ship sailed, and so did any line of thinking that the chain's iconic double-entendre-ridden moniker would EVER be a problem. Plus, that legendary owl logo sort of softened the blow. By the way, Hooters opened in 1983, and THIS was the first commercial.
Hooters
Blink, and you'll miss ANY image of food. But there's a big old pitcher of beer, and, well, other sights.
My take on Hooters is that a restaurant should never be famous for what its servers wear. At the very least, that shouldn't be the MAIN reason we visit. For many, of course, it has been, and what a nice surprise, upon arrival, when the food turned out to be good. And it always was every time I went. I like the Hooters menu.
Hooters Files for Bankruptcy
Of course, now we wonder what happens next after news broke that Hooters has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. I know this much; the location nearest me, in Evansville, remains open, and, according to CNN, that's the story for the rest of the chain's locations which include several more in Indiana, as well as Illinois and Kentucky.

Recent Hooters history hasn't exactly been pristine, as the company has faced lawsuits involving racial and gender discrimination, not to mention its 2024 closure of several underperforming stores, likely due to rising food and labor costs.
The bottom line is this...if your a Hooters fan, you have nothing to worry about in the short term. As the company told CNN yesterday, Hooters will exit bankruptcy in "90 to 120 days."
