How Many Handbags Does the Average Kentucky Woman Own?

Today is National Handbag Day and I am curious. Just how many handbags does the average woman own? Of course, this totally depends on the woman and whether she is into fashion and more of a maximalist or whether she would rather invest in one really good bag and carry that forever to not have a closet full of purses.

Novelty Purses Are So Fun

Guess which one I am! Haha! I LOVE to express myself with fun outfits. I love a theme and a chance to get dressed up all matchy and cute. One of my favorite gals to follow on TikTok has the most impressive collection of adorable novelty purses and accessories I have ever seen. She just so happens to be a Kentuckian too! The only woman I know to rival Moriah is my mother! She told me she did a count recently and has almost 150 purses! As long as I can remember she has always had a cute bag to go with any outfit, but her collection has grown throughout the years. That's because studies show that as women age, the number of purses they have increases. Studies have shown they have less debt than younger generations and acquire more disposable income once kids are grown and gone? For my mom, it's definitely a hobby.

I have some friends who don't carry purses at all or just stick to one or two classic bags to tote around with essentials. They don't like changing all of their things from one bag to another or want to spend the money, so they find a good-quality purse or two and stick to them. Then they text ME when they want a trendy bag to borrow.

How Many Purses Does the Average Woman Have?

So what is the average then? Surely it's way less than 150 and more than two. The most recent study I found was featured in the Wall Street Journal several years ago. They said that the average number of purses a woman owns is eleven and that they typically will add two bags a year to their collection.

I can tell you I am doing my part to keep this number on the higher end! I bought these two fun purses in the past two weeks. One was from a fabulous woman's leatherworking booth at the Clarkson Honeyfest and the other I thought was such a clever idea from a booth at the Owensboro Comic and Toy Con.
