Here’s How to Check If Your Vehicle Has an Open Recall
I'm not pressing the alarm button, but it does seem like you can hardly open a news website these days without seeing something about another vehicle recall. Of course, if my vehicle DOES pop up on a recall list, I might just press that button, depending on the severity of the issue.
GM Recall
The funny thing is, and I think I'm in the minority here, I don't, ahem, recall ever having to bring my vehicle back to the dealer for something like this. I must have a four-leaf clover somewhere that I don't know about. But recalls do happen seemingly on a weekly basis. Here's a Chevy Silverado explaining his involvement in a recent, high-profile truck recall regarding a defective fuel pump.
But you don't have to wait until recall information appears in your news feed. If you feel like there's something wrong, and even if you don't, there are resources available to put your mind at ease.
How to Track Recalls on Your Vehicle
If you're unsure about your vehicle's recall status, if it has one, visit the U.S. General Services Administration's website, and then find "How can I check if a single vehicle has an open recall?" Click it, and you'll be sent to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) where you can enter your vehicle's license plate and VIN. You will immediately know if there is an open recall on your ride. I did it, and the coast is clear on my end.
Obviously, if you HAVE an open recall, you'll need to get the vehicle into a compatible dealership, and they will take it from there.
Good luck.
