This KY Woman’s Butter Candle Will Level Up Your Next Dinner Party
OK, First off, she had me at "butter candle." Say no more, I am here for it! When Heather Terry told me that is what she made for our spooky girls' night, I couldn't wait to see how this worked out.
I had seen a video of one on TikTok and thought "Oh, I could totally do that." But I hadn't gotten around to it yet. Although I can whip up a mess of something, I don't love to cook, bake, what have you, unless it is super easy. Which, this certainly is.

All you need is a paper cup, a wick, butter, and whatever delicious combination of spices or flavors you want. You could make it savory with sea salt and herbs or sweet with cinnamon and a little honey.
Heather used garlic in hers and got a loaf of sourdough from Niko's Bakery in Owensboro. It was SO DELICIOUS. Here's what she did;
1. Stick the wick on the bottom of the paper cup.
2. Melt your butter
3. Add spices/flavors
4. Pour butter into the cup with the wick
5. Use a wick stabilizer or two pencils on either side of wick to keep it centered.
6. Let butter harden
7. Peel off cup
8. Cut a hole in the center of a sourdough loaf or whatever bread you like. Slice the remaining bread so you can easily pull pieces off but it still keeps its shape.
9. Put the candle in the hole and light it
10. Wait 20-30 minutes for butter to begin melting
11. Dip bread pieces into melted butter and ENJOY
You should be able to find everything you need in a local store. Michael's or Hobby Lobby should have the wicks you need. I couldn't find an Amazon listing for anything less than 100 wicks, but that just means you could make butter candles until the end of time! Or maybe you can sweet talk Heather into giving you a couple of hers.
Here is the link if you want to order some. You get 100 wicks, stickers to attach them to the bottom of the cup and a wooden stick to make sure your wick stays centered as the butter hardens. Pretty great deal!
Enjoy being the favorite person at the dinner party! This is what the butter candle looked like when it finally melted down. We had the lights off watching scary movies and eating snacks, so this was the perfect addition to our cozy night in.
