So I'm sitting at my desk one day, working, minding my own business, when my phone rings. And what you see below is what was on my phone screen.

Naturally, I answered it.

The voice on the other end told me that my AT&T account had been deactivated and that I had to enter the last four digits of my social security number to get it reactivated.

That sounded pretty fishy.

I called AT&T and they confirmed that there was nothing wrong with my account.

When I told the representative what had happened, she sounded like she was familiar with attempts to scam using AT&T.

She sounded a bit more concerned when I told her what appeared on my phone screen when the call came in.

What's more, a friend of mine actually DID enter those last four digits and is now constantly monitoring her credit report and bank account for suspicious activity.

Please be careful. It would never have occurred to me that a scam call could go this far.

Ah, technology. You learn something new everyday.
