Here’s Why You Should Store Your Ice Cream in a Ziploc Bag
I had never seen this life hack before, so I figured other people hadn't either. My friend Swoop posted this picture on Facebook.
He is wondering whether it is weird that his wife puts their ice cream cartons in plastic bags before storing them in the freezer. I've gotta be honest, I have never seen anyone do this before, so it is a little strange to me. To each their own, though! I know his boo thang is a very smart woman, so now I am wondering why she does this.
In the comments, my other friend Rachel says, "Keeps the other tastes out! Good idea!" and Ami Lynn pointed out that if the bag is airtight, it will keep those ice crystals and freezer burn from forming. A few other folks mentioned that it can keep the ice cream soft and scoopable.
The person I related to the most was the one who said ice cream never lasts long enough in their freezer to get hard or crystallized or tainted by the smells of the other food in there. When I bring home my black raspberry chocolate chip Graeter's, I take care of business, ya know?
After a quick trip down the rabbit hole to investigate, I found it is true that storing your ice cream in a bag helps it stay fresh in the freezer and ready for easy scooping!
