Ice Storm Warning Now Includes Daviess, Henderson, Hancock, Union
It's been 12 years since we've heard the phrase "ice storm warning," but it's back, whether we like it or not.
Tuesday, the National Weather Service issued an ice storm warning for a large section of the Commonwealth that included most of western Kentucky, with the exception of Daviess, Hancock, Henderson, and Union Counties.
As of Wednesday morning, those four counties had been added to the massive list of Kentucky counties now under an ice storm warning. From the National Weather Service, here's what that means for us:
...Prolonged icing event expected Today through Thursday...
.Significant ice accumulations are expected to produce
treacherous, potentially life-threatening travel conditions
through Thursday morning. While ice accumulations are expected to
be higher over parts of West Kentucky, the southern tip of
Illinois, and the Delta region of Southeast Missouri, dangerous
road conditions are anticipated across the entire Quad State.

...ICE STORM WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM CST THURSDAY...
* WHAT...Significant icing expected. Total ice accumulation of a
quarter inch is possible. Sleet is anticipated to mix in
tonight.
* WHERE...Union, Henderson and Daviess Counties in Kentucky.
* WHEN...Until 6 PM CST Thursday, with the majority of the ice
accumulation expected Wednesday afternoon and evening.
* IMPACTS...Expect dangerous and potentially life-threatening road
conditions. Cold temperatures will keep surfaces frozen long
after precipitation ends. The hazardous conditions could impact
the morning and evening commutes. Some tree damage and power
outages are possible.
Needless to say, the National Weather Service is advising against traveling in this kind of weather. But if you must, keep an extra flashlight, some food and water, and a blanket, in case of an emergency. Also, power outages will be possible.
TIPS: Here's how you can prepare for power outages
