I’m Not the Only One Getting Phony Court Appearance Emails, Right?
Scam artists really must think we are all incredibly stupid. I mean, why in the world would ANYONE notify us about court appearances via email?
And I'm looking at YOU, Vincent Gambino Baker.
Have you received an email from this guy, yet? Well, I have enough to create an additional World Book Encyclopedia volume. And it would rival "S." Thing is, they are ALL the same message.
You have Notice to Appear in Court.
Hereby you are notified that you have been scheduled to appear for your hearing at the county courthouse. Please bring all documents and witnesses relating to this case with you to Court on your hearing date.
To view a copy of the court notice click here. Please, read it thoroughly.
Note: If you do not attend the hearing the Judge may issue a warrant for failure to appear in Court.
Vincent Gambino Baker, Attorney at Law
Oh no you don't, counselor. I'm pretty sure if I had been charged with a crime, I'd remember it. And I'm pretty sure someone would appear at my door. AND, while we're at it, I'm pretty sure YOU don't exist.
What I find funny is this is the EXACT same language in all the emails. If it were legit, I'd already be in trouble from the one I ignored in JULY.
This is clearly a phishing scam designed to relieve me of personal information or to infect my computer with malware.
You know, we've seen the number of different types of scams increase over recent years, but they have really escalated since the beginning of the pandemic.
I mean, it's bad enough to try and do this to someone in the first place, but at a time when we're MOST vulnerable.
Stay safe. Stay alert. And have a safe holiday season. Oh, and take Vincent Gambino Baker off your Christmas card list. Or, you can just send him one that says "click here."
