Have you ever taken a "foodie" road trip? I have. It's what it sounds like...you pick a restaurant you've wanted to try or one you want to revisit, and you build a quick getaway around it.

Friends of mine have given me "the look" when they've thought I'll just drive a relatively long distance to eat at a restaurant, and then hop in the car and come right back. If I ever do that, I won't drive any longer than a half-hour. For longer journeys, I need to "build" the trip.

Now that that's out of the way, yes, I would plan a jaunt around great fried chicken. I've done it for catfish, so why not chicken? And now that I've learned of a hole-in-the-wall destination in Indiana that keeps bringing them back for more, I may have to plan another excursion.

The Chicken House

At first glance, The Chicken House in Sellersburg, Indiana, is an unassuming-looking establishment, but wait until you see inside. And wait until you see that food.

It seems, though, that you could say, about The Chicken House, "Come for the chicken; stay for everything else." Any patron is likely fortunate that this popular Sellersburg haunt doesn't stop at chicken.

As a connoisseur of any type of fish, I'm ready to drop everything and head to Sellersburg for fried bluegill. I've never had it, and it looks like I should.

Chicken House Reviews

I didn't pull The Chicken House out of thin air; I was led here by a flattering piece at DailyWise and by stellar online reviews.

360 Catholic - "The service here was superb from start to finish. Our server, Hanna, was phenomenal. It's rare to see service that is both so quick and so personable. She efficiently took care of all our requests and made sure we had everything we needed, making for a truly relaxing and wonderful meal."

Elizabeth McKnight - "There are so many choices here- there is no earthly way to try everything in one visit! What we did try was good home cooking. The spicy cheese curds, fried chicken, chicken livers, and yeast rolls were perfect."

Janā Fisher - "I can't say enough good things about this place. The owners take so much pride in cleanliness, service & especially the food they serve. We eat here at least weekly, sometimes twice a week."

Bon appétit.
