It’s Official: The University of Louisville Cardinals Have to Vacate Their 2013 Title
The NCAA has denied the University of Louisville's appeal and the Cardinals will now have to vacate their 2013 National Title.
It's the first time in college basketball history that a school has had to remove a championship banner.
U of L will also have to relinquish all claims to its 2012 Final Four campaign.
ESPN's Mark Schlabach reports that these moves by the NCAA are a result of the investigation involving the payment to strippers to entertain Louisville players on campus from 2010 to 2014.
Since penalties were announced last June, the removal of these prized appearances and their accompanying banners has been a specter hanging over the school and its fan base.
And now it's official.
Louisville has made history...but not the kind it ever imagined.
