Thanksgiving Weekend is here. For many southern Indiana residents, it means four days of getting together with family and friends to enjoy each other's company, enjoy some great food, and maybe even a few drinks. If you know the latter will be part of the plans, it's important to make sure you have a plan to get home safely when the party is over. There's no sense in ruining a great time by getting behind the wheel. To help make that plan way easier, Logan's Promise is once again teaming up with ride-share service, Lyft, and Working Distributors to offer free safe rides home for residents of Vanderburgh, Posey, Warrick, and Gibson Counties.

The Mission of Logan's Promise

Logan's Promise was founded by Charles Brown after his son, Logan, a student at Reitz High School at the time, was killed in March of 2015 after a drunk driver going the wrong way on University Parkway near USI crashed into the car he was riding in with friends. Determined to do everything he could to prevent other friends, families, and communities from having to suffer through the same type of tragedy, Charles formed Logan's Promise to share the pain drinking and driving can inflict on not just the victim, but those close to them as well.

In addition to sharing stories from those who have been impacted by a drunk driver, Charles decided the best way to keep people from getting behind the wheel after drinking was to offer an alternative way to get home safely. Through a partnership with Lyft and local businesses, the Safe Ride Program is made available periodically throughout the year (usually around holidays or large community events where drinking is likely to occur) to residents of Vanderburgh, Warrick, Posey, and Gibson Counties.

2023 Thanksgiving Weekend Safe Rides

To take advantage of the offer, simply order a ride through Lyft and use the promo code, SAFEGIVING2023, and Logan's Promise, along with help from Working Distributors, will cover the cost of your ride home up to $25. If the price of your ride exceeds that amount, all you'll have to pay is the difference. And honestly, if the ride costs $30 or $40, putting you on the hook for only $10 or $20, that's WAY cheaper than the costs you could rack up if you were to get pulled over, or something worse, because you decided to drive when you shouldn't have.

It's important to note that the offer will only be available from 8:00 PM until 3:00 AM each night on Wednesday, November 22nd, Thursday, November 23rd (Thanksgiving Day), Friday, November 24th, Saturday, November 25th, and the first few hours of Sunday, November 26th, and will only take you home. It will not take you to the next bar or party. One more thing to keep in mind, Lyft drivers are essentially independent contractors, so remember to throw them a couple of bucks as a way to say thanks for getting you home safely.

Best Looking State Patrol Cars In (Almost) Every State

For the past 10 years, the American Association of State Troopers has held a contest to determine which state has the best looking patrol cruiser. Nearly every state police agency submits their best photo of their sharpest patrol vehicle a chance to win the coveted cover photo on the association's annual calendar. From cop cars rushing through blizzards to vehicles on the Grand Ole Opry stage, here are this year's nominees.
