Evansville-Made Bread Recalled for Nut Allergy Risk
Bread manufactured in Evansville and sold at Walmart, Kroger, and other stores in a dozen states, including Indiana, as well as Kentucky, Illinois, and Tennessee, has been recalled.
What Evansville Bread Is Being Recalled?
Hartford Bakery, Inc. has recalled six lots of one of its bread products after it was discovered that it may contain undeclared hazelnuts, making it a danger to those with nut allergies or sensitivities to hazelnuts.
Why the Recall Was Issued
While the product packaging does indicate that it "May Contain Tree Nuts," it does not state that it "Contains Hazelnuts." According to a release from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, consumption of the product by those with allergies or sensitivities poses a serious or even life-threatening risk of allergic reaction.

The company says that while they have determined that no additional lot numbers were impacted, they are removing all of the products from the six affected lots. The recalled products, "Lewis Bake Shop Artisan Style 1/2 Loaf" were sold at Walmart and Kroger stores across twelve states.
