Nashville Zoo Cancels Popular Holiday Tradition for 2026
If a trip to Zoolumination at the Nashville Zoo has become part of your annual holiday traditions, I've got some disappointing news.
The Nashville Zoo has announced that Zoolumination has been canceled for the 2026 season after visa issues prevented the artisans responsible for creating the massive lantern festival from traveling to Nashville.
The event has been held at the Zoo since 2019 and has grown into what the Nashville Zoo describes as the largest lantern festival in the United States, featuring more than 1,000 lanterns throughout the property.
Why Was Zooluminations Canceled?
Zoolumination is created in partnership with InLight Festival Group and relies on specialized artisans who travel from Zigong, China, to construct the elaborate displays.
According to the Nashville Zoo, the craftsmanship behind the displays represents decades of specialized skill and tradition.
Unfortunately, visa applications for the artisans scheduled to work on the 2026 event were denied.
The Zoo says it was unable to find another solution that would allow Zoolumination to continue this year, resulting in the cancellation.
Nashville Zoo Will Still Have Christmas Lights in 2026
There is some good news here. The Nashville Zoo isn't giving up on holiday festivities.
Instead, it will debut a brand-new holiday event called Glow Wild beginning November 13.
The new light show will feature glowing wildlife, holiday displays, and an 85-foot-tall synchronized Christmas tree.
Glow Wild will run nightly from November 13, 2026, through January 3, 2027.
So while we won't get the massive lantern displays we've come to associate with Zoolumination this Christmas, it sounds like the Nashville Zoo still intends to give us plenty of reasons to make a holiday road trip.
