Newburgh’s New Playground Is Finally Ready for Families

For many Newburgh families, this has been one of the most anticipated community projects in recent years.

The swings are up. The slides are ready. After years of planning and construction, Newburgh's newest playground is finally complete.

To celebrate, the Town of Newburgh is inviting families to a First Play & Back-to-School Bash at Lou Dennis Community Park on Tuesday, August 4, giving children the chance to be among the very first to explore the new playground before the school year begins.

Rather than holding a traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony, town leaders say this celebration is all about letting kids do what playgrounds are meant for - playing.

A Playground Designed for Everyone

The expanded playground featured modern, inclusive equipment designed to give children of all abilities a place to play together.

The park is also home to the Robert Emmett Griffin Obstacle & Fitness Course, creating opportunities for recreation and physical activity for both children and adults.

According to Deputy Town Manager Andrea Balboni, the project has been years in the making.

We wanted this day to simply be about watching kids laugh, explore, and enjoy this incredible new space before heading back to school.

What to Expect at the Celebration

The free community event begins at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4, at Lou Dennison Community Park, located at 402 Park Drive in Newburgh.

Families can enjoy:

• The first community play on the new playground
• A back-to-school bash
• Music
• Family-friendly games and activities
• Free treats and refreshments (while supplies last)
• Community organizations and local resources

The Warrick County Health Department and Newburgh Chandler Public Library will also be on hand with activities, educational resources, and giveaways.

Representatives from Midstates Recreation, the company that designed and installed the playground, will be available to answer questions about the equipment, inclusive play features, playground safety, and the obstacle course.

A Community Investment

The playground project was made possible through a partnership between the Town of Newburgh, the Indiana READU 2.0 program, Newburgh Park Pals, private donors, and other community partners.

Town officials say a separate donor recognition and playground blessing ceremony will be held at a later date, allowing the community to properly thank everyone who helped bring the project to life.

For now, the focus is on something much simpler: watching families make memories in Newburgh's newest gathering place.
