Last Friday, I was supposed to get tickets to see Leanne Morgan in Owensboro for my friends Emily, Katie, and Kelly. Guess. Who. Forgot. To. Get. Tickets...

It's me. I'm the big failure. And they immediately sold out. I felt so bad, but they weren't mad. In fact, Emily said, "Let me look in Nashville." Turns out, Leanne is performing on her birthday, so we got tickets, and we are making a weekend of it. And honestly, that's perfect because we NEED time away together.

Why Women Need Time Away Together

Facebook algorithm must have heard my lamenting because it fed me something I'd never even heard of before. Adult summer camp for women only. I had to dig in more.

Full disclosure, I never went to summer camp as a kid. Not even day camp. I am an extroverted introvert, meaning I can be the life of the party, emcee, leader chick, but I would rather just be at home with my dog. Even as a kid, my mom suggested I spend a few days at YMCA day camp, swimming and having fun with friends. I politely declined. I had a horse, pool, TV, and AC at home. Hundreds of screaming kids? No thanks.

Why Adult Summer Camp Actually Sounds Fun

But now that I'm older, I think going to summer camp would be so fun. My family took our camper to Prizer Point KOA a few summers ago at Kentucky Lake and it was like a summer camp for families. They had everything you can think of, from an in-lake inflatable obstacle course to games like basketball and tennis, to a pool, to a giant jump pad, and more. We had a BLAST. But I was still "mom." I had to make food, force kids to wear sunscreen, make food, clean, make food, make sure no one died, make food, and oh yes, make food.

There are only a handful of adult women-only summer camps in the US. I found five that are all very different but all sound very cool. Let's take a look at what might be the best fit for you!

Adventurous Women's Camp

It was like Joelle, a Kentucky native like myself, was speaking to my soul when she founded Adventurous Women's Camp.

Hi, I'm Joelle, a Kentucky native, and AWC began during a season when I personally needed rest, nature, and connection more than anything else.

AWC was created for the women who hold everything together.. careers, families, relationships, schedules, expectations and rarely get the chance to rest themselves.

Our adult summer camp is a gentle invitation to slow down, reconnect with yourself and others, and rediscover the joy of simply being. Through restful moments, meaningful conversations, and playful experiences, my team and I have thought of everything to give you a great weekend you'll never forget.

What started as an idea has grown into something deeply meaningful over the past three years. And with each camp, it’s become clearer: this isn’t just a weekend of play. It’s a space designed to care for the people who are always caring for everyone else.

If you’ve been craving time away where you don’t have to decide, plan, cook, or be “on”, this camp was made for you.

She had me at you don't have to decide, plan, cook, or be on. Located in the gorgeous Red River Gorge in eastern Kentucky, campers "rough it" in a tent that's outfitted with real beds with fresh linens, heat and A/C for comfort in changing weather, interior lighting and outlets, a keurig coffee maker, a private front porch, and a private sitting area. There is also access to a really nice bathhouse. Campers stay three nights and all activities and meals are included:

Rock climbing
Yoga classes
Hiking
Arts & crafts
Games + team challenges
Murder mystery night
Cooking class
Campfire hangs
Stargazing

This is also a tech-free camp, so leave your cellies a home! Unfortunately, camp is sold for 2026, so if you'd like to attend in 2027, get on their newsletter list to see when event sales open.

Camp Social Women Only Summer Camp Experience

Next up, Camp Social. It's located in Pennsylvania, which is not exactly a quick drive, but it looks like an absolute blast. This women’s-only, 3-day sleepaway camp is all about connecting and letting go of everyday stress. Their website describes it as a choose-your-own-adventure experience. During the day, you have full freedom to enjoy wellness activities, lakeside moments, creative fun, fitness classes, adventures, and cozy crafts.

But the real fun hits when the sun goes down.

What Happens at Night at Camp Social

When the sun sets, the entire camp comes together for the moments that make Camp Social famous:

Outdoor movie nights under the stars
DJ dance parties
Mocktail and cocktail happy hours
Dining hall dinners with hundreds of dancing women
The kind of late-night laughs you never forget
Surprise programming they keep secret

This is where lifelong friendships, inside jokes, and “I can’t believe this is real life” moments happen.

All of that sounds amazing. The part I love most? They are not pushing personal growth workshops, therapy sessions, or journaling circles. It is just FUN. Like real summer camp, but with cocktails! Right up my alley.

Bad news if you want Camp Social this year, it is already sold out. But there is a waitlist for 2027.

Grown Up Girls Camp at Skyland Camp

Good news, though, there is Grown-Up Girls Camp at Skyland Camp in North Carolina! Their first session is full, but there is still availability in August. Camp Social has a more laid-back daytime vibe with a party atmosphere at night. Skyland is more like a traditional camp with a structured schedule, evening all-camp activities, and lights out at 10.

The camp is four days long and activities include:

Archery
Crafts
Swimming
Cardio drumming
Horseback riding
Volleyball and ring tennis
Choir and musical instruments
Pickleball
Ping pong and yard games
Tennis
Nature walks
Reading and board games
Rocking on the front porch or swinging in a hammock
All-camp evening activities
And much more

They also offer horseback riding, cocktail hours, and an all-camp talent show.

Skyland Camp also offers Mother/Daughter camps and spiritual camps.

Camp EmPOWERment Retreat for Women

Now, I am not really into self-discovery type events, but a lot of women are looking for more of a retreat experience. If that sounds like you, check out Camp EmPOWERment in North Carolina.

Their Fancy Camp, happening this June, focuses on interactive sessions with speakers, professors, doctors, coaches, and authors. There is time for games, nature, and learning something new. And yes, the farn-to-table food looks amazing.

The format is Fancy Camp – a fulfilling, connective and upscale experience with an intimate group at The Horse Shoe Farm, an award-winning 85-acre luxury boutique resort in the foothills of Asheville, North Carolina.

Woman Camp Ohio Off the Grid Experience

If you are not into cabins and pickleball and you want to rough it, maybe Woman Camp is more your style.

Woman Camp in Ohio is an off-the-grid, tent camping, Christian-based weekend designed for women by women. It is a spiritual experience in nature with no distractions. You can expect worship, real camping, Bible study, hiking, evening campfires, and even a giant waterslide.

As they put it:

Women lead worship and drive tractors. Women teach the Word of God and chop firewood. Women pitch tents and pray. Women love, help, and include others with every kind of gift.

There Is a Women-Only Summer Camp for Everyone

No matter what kind of summer camp you want, there is one for you. And if not, there is always a weekend with your best girls and a little Leanne Morgan.

We will see you there.
