Kentucky Ag Commissioner Announces Children’s Summer Meal Program Initiative
Kentucky's agriculture commissioner Ryan Quarles has announced an program that would provide summer meals for children who might not otherwise have access to them.
It's called K-VIP (Kentucky-Grown Vegetable Incentive Program).
According to WPSD/Local6, the program would create an incentive to purchase fruits and vegetables for summer meal programs in Kentucky.
KyKidsEat.org points out the benefits not only for the kids, but for farmers, whose market opportunities will expand under the program.
A grant from the Kentucky Agricultural Development Board via the Kentucky Association of Food Banks will fund the program.
