Is Kentucky the Best State For Country Music? Luke Combs Says ‘Yes!’
In a recent interview with the Mostly Sports Podcast, country star Luke Combs was asked which state he thinks has the best country music. His reply? Kentucky!
Actually, he said, "I would biased-ly say Carolina, but truthfully, it's Kentucky. You've got Tyler Childers, Chris Stapleton, Keith Whitley. There's just… to me, the talent in Kentucky is just unmatched. North Carolina is great… Kentucky is a stacked state, in my opinion."
He's Not Wrong!
I appreciate him keeping it real, and you know what? He isn't wrong. He kept going with the shout-outs, too. Loretta Lynn, Sturgill Simpson, The Judds, Billy Ray Cyrus, Patty Loveless, Dwight Yoakam, etc.
We Need Luke Combs to Record His Cover of "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive"
Luke has shared in the past that he would like to record "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive." Made famous by Patty Loveless, he's performed the song live before and totally killed it.
I haven't had a chance to listen to the whole Mostly Sports Podcast episode just yet, but I wonder if he mentions any of the newer groups that have exploded onto the worldwide music scene, like Ole 60 from right here in Western Kentucky. Here it is if you want to give it a watch/listen.
Luke Combs' Kentucky Connection
Fun fact! Did you know that Luke Combs' keyboard player, Korey Hunt, is from Kentucky? Caneyville, represent! He's a huge Wildcats fan, no shock there.
Now, Luke did give credit to a couple of other states for their incredible talent and influence on the country music world. "Texas is stacked. Obviously (they've got) George Strait. There's a lot of guys from Tennessee: Kenny Chesney, Morgan Wallen. Quite a few guys are from Tennessee. At most, everyone comes there." It would make sense for Tennessee to compete for the title of the best since Nashville IS the Country Music Capital of the World.
Kentucky is the Best State For Country Music
However, if we made a list of country artists from each state, I bet Kentucky would end up somewhere at the top. Here is one I put together. Let me know if I have forgotten anyone!
