Kentucky Bride Wows Guests With Performance Channeling Janis Joplin
This past weekend, Michael and I attended a beautiful wedding in Booneville, IN at the Tanglewood Wedding & Events Barn. Our friends Kayla and Derek Van Tuyl tied the knot in one of the sweetest ceremonies I've ever experienced. Even though someone in the bridal party totally dropped the ball and forgot to bring one of the rings! One of the bridesmaids (a total MVP moment) saved the day by running in her gown to retrieve said ring while a groomsman told the adorable story of how Kayla and Derek met.
Once the husband and wife were announced, the PARTAY began. The venue, the food, the company, and the cake were all amazing, but the absolute show-stopper event was when the bride, Kayla, took to the stage with Dan Hall and Blackford Creek. They were rocking out that evening with their genuine country/rock vibe, and we loved every minute of it.
Now, Kayla is a musician, I knew that. I have enjoyed her singing many times as she has played Theatre Workshop Cabarets and various venues around town. Usually also playing guitar for herself which I also find super impressive! But, holy COW she absolutely killed it as soon as she put that mic to her lips. Do you know that MVP bridesmaid I mentioned before? Well, she did it again when she captured the performance on video.
Kayla has been performing her whole life and has become popular around the tri-state in the past couple of years. With a blues and rock-inspired sound, she gets gritty with it in the best way.
I think one of the most special things about Kayla is the genuine emotion in every performance. She has often said that music is therapy for her. Telling stories through song and being able to connect with an audience is something she has totally mastered. As evidence, I present the video of this past weekend where she had every one of us in the palm of her newly blinged hand! With her biggest fan and supporter, her new husband, Derek, right in the front as always.
If you want to catch her perform sometime, follow her on Facebook. She shares show dates at places like Ten O Six, Brasher's Lil Nashville, and videos of her slaying the stage.
