After the recent weather events, you may have quite the pile of debris to be disposed of. If you plan on burning it down, you may want to keep in mind local guidelines to be sure you stay safe and the area around you isn't harmed. The Daviess County Fire Department has shared some clarification between an all-over burn ban and burning restrictions. These also apply to firepits for recreational use.

Kentucky Division of Forestry Burn Restrictions

As we approach a season of wildfire risk, the Kentucky Division of Forestry has placed restrictions throughout the state as they do every year. This DOES NOT mean Daviess County is under a burn ban. It DOES mean that from now until April 30th, you cannot burn debris outdoors between the hours of 6 AM and 6 PM and you must also be more than 150 feet away from woodland or brushland. The only exception is if there is snow on the ground.

What Materials Can be Burned Outdoors in KY?

There are also stipulations on what can be burned. As a city gal, this was something I was not aware of. According to the official state website, "It is illegal to burn garbage or any other materials, except natural plant matter, such as brush and woody debris." For more information on outdoor burning guidelines, you can visit that site here.

In the event that an actual burn BAN is announced, it will be shared via communication from county officials. When bans happen, they are usually for a period of time when there is not enough rain to keep a fire from possibly burning out of control, which can happen very quickly. They prohibit most all types of outdoor burning until the time has passed.

You Might Be From Kentucky If...

I'm sure there can be 50 versions of this concept, but we'll let the other 49 states deal with their own. We're here for the Bluegrass State.
