This Kentucky Fabric Store is a Crafter’s Dream Come True

Before recent years, sewing and crocheting may have been considered "Memaw hobbies." Boy, are they making a comeback! Thanks to the influence of adorable country stars like Emily Ann Roberts. Known as the "Yeehaw Meemaw" she encourages folks of all ages, all walks of life to try new things.

Like gardening, canning, cooking, baking, crocheting, cross-stitching, sewing, etc. I would bet money your Meemaw did at least two of those things on a regular basis. Which is why they've gotten their nickname.

I don't know for sure what has caused this revival of "old school" skills, but I would guess a mix of COVID boredom and the desire for nostalgia or "the good ole days" that we all feel. Either way, the crafting boom is real, and more folks than ever are looking for fabric, yarn, and supplies galore.

It is such a shame that we don't have more options for fabric here in town. I remember spending hours upon hours in the Fountain Square Hancock's Fabrics with my mama. She still sews, but the limited selection here in town makes it a little trickier. My friend Sam went to the COOLEST fabric and yarn store last week in Glasgow, Kentucky. She shared this video on Facebook that had me needing to find out more.

Danny and Randi Woosley are the owners, and their daughter Sydney works there after school. She is a high schooler with a special knack for helping match colors. Gotta make sure your thread shade is just right. Danny loves to crochet, and Randi loves to sew. That is the sign of a really good craft store.

When the owners and employees are crafters themselves, you know they are going to fix you up with exactly what you need. The best tools to use and free tips and advice with purchase! I've heard their quilting specialist, Daphna, can troubleshoot a pattern problem like nobody's business.

Danny is a high school teacher who was looking for a job that he’d like to do once retired. He started working for Joann Fabrics & Crafts in the same shopping strip where his store is located now, 372 N L Rogers Wells Blvd. When it closed, they did not want to leave the community without options, so they opened in August 2025.

Unfortunately, many smaller towns have seen this same thing happen. Stores close, and then we are left with minimal places to shop in person or none at all. It has happened here in Owensboro, too. We still have a couple of places, but if you want to go somewhere that will make you feel like a kid in a candy store, take a little road trip to Danny's.
