Josh and Laura Murphy and their beautiful kiddos are bright lights in the Owensboro community.  Despite the pain and heartbreak they experienced in building their family, they welcomed their "double rainbow baby," Judson Rock, in November 2021.  Ever since his arrival, they have felt called to use their story to help local families seeking adoption and non-profits supporting young mothers in Daviess County.

Laura shared "Each year in late September, the month Liv was due, we held a 5K walk in her honor at Yellow Creek Park to raise money for a local family who was trying to adopt or a local non-profit such as Carenet or the Right to Life Safe Haven Baby box. This year, we completed our fourth t-shirt sale since 2020, raising just over $1,000 for a family who is trying to adopt." This year, that family is them.

The journey to this decision has not been easy. The devastating loss of their daughter, Liv Carlieze, and son, Jettson John Michael, can only truly be understood by those who have also experienced such utter heartbreak. "Two times I carried a baby I did not get to keep earth side,— I gave birth and I wept and I healed and I grieved. And I walked through Target avoiding the baby aisle and I ran out of my best friend's baby shower to hide in the bathroom to ask God “Why.” I visited my children’s graves in far-stretched sporadic time periods, sobbing uncontrollably at the sight of their names beneath the willow tree. But this time, I’m about to keep a baby earth-side that I did not carry and somehow that’s the most beautiful restoration of all."

After a month of paperwork, figuring out the logistics of welcoming another member to their family, and an array of emotions, the Murphys have announced that they are adopting a precious baby girl due at the end of September. Just like their daughter Liv was. Laura said "I will not give birth to her, but even as we speak, we are rearranging, decluttering, and making changes in our lives to make room for the most unexpected miracle we could have ever dreamed of. Please pray for our precious birth mom and our little girl in the weeks and months ahead. They are both a part of our testimony forever."

My heart was especially touched by their puzzle fundraiser. You can purchase a piece of this puzzle to have a name written on the back. For your family members or in memory of someone. They are $5 each and they plan to put the puzzle together as a family, frame it, and hang it in the baby's nursery. You can contact Laura on Facebook to participate in this beautiful gesture.

"We chose this puzzle for a reason. Lily always loved Rapunzel and chose her from every Disney store when she was just a toddler. Purple is my favorite color and when my mom passed away, we let lanterns go in her honor. So this is the one that jumped out to me, not to mention I used to use Thomas Kinkade paintings as my writing prompt starters when I first started teaching." Laura explained. I love how thoughtful her heart is. She appreciates the tiniest of details that make life special in a way only a mother can.
