Why Kentucky’s Fun Score Doesn’t Tell the Whole Story

Each year, WalletHub crunches the numbers to find out which states offer the most fun for travelers and locals alike, and the 2025 rankings are in. By comparing all 50 states across dozens of factors like entertainment, nightlife, and recreation, the report aims to spotlight the ultimate destinations for enjoyment. Unsurprisingly, states like California and Florida snagged top spots, but one ranking in particular stood out, and not in a good way. Despite its rich culture, stunning natural beauty, and Kentucky charm, the Bluegrass State ranked near the bottom of the list. But does it deserve that? Not so fast, my friend.

How They Measured the “Fun”

With pure enjoyment in mind, WalletHub ranked all 50 states using 26 key indicators of a good time without blowing your budget. The metrics ranged from the cost of a movie ticket and the number of amusement parks to access to national parks and nightlife options per capita. In other words, they crunched the numbers on everything from hiking trails to happy hours in an attempt to define “fun” by the data.
