Kentucky High School Band Will Perform in Macy’s Parade

As a kid, my favorite part of the annual Christmas parade was, of course, the appearance of Santa Claus at the end. I mean, come on, right?

Close behind, though, were all the impressive floats and all those holiday scenes and...oh wait, the candy. I forgot about the candy. Back then, they used to toss it from the floats, something that hasn't happened in a very long time.

I'll never forget when our church, Hall Street Baptist Church, got to be IN the parade in 1976. I joined three others for puppet work--not easy, for the entire length of a parade--while our pastor and his wife read the Christmas story and the church choir sang carols.

When you're a kid, the parade is doubly exciting and even more so when you are a participant.

Imagine, then, what it must feel like when you play in the high school band and yours gets chosen to be in the MOTHER of all parades, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Well...you don't have to imagine it. See for yourself, when Bourbon County High School's band got the good news:

As WLKY-Louisville says, only nine bands will be in the Macy's Parade, so it is a rare achievement, indeed.

The Colonels will not be performing in this year's parade, but rather in the 2022 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. So they have a ton of time to practice and then wow us 18 months from now.

I've always said that it's great to have something to look forward to, and so these kids are going to be walking on air for the next year and a half.
