Kentucky Reducing Restaurant Capacity, Closing Bars for Two Weeks
Coronavirus cases are escalating all over the country and in Kentucky, the numbers have escalated so much in the past two weeks, Governor Andy Beshear is taking two crucial additional steps to help curb the positive cases.
Starting Tuesday (7/28) at 5:00 p.m. all bars in Kentucky will close for two weeks.
And restaurants will cut back indoor capacity to 25 percent. Outdoor dining will remain in place as long as there is social distancing in place, tables spread apart, etc.
Governor Beshear also recommended schools not to open to in-person classes until the third week of August, which most school systems in our area are aiming to reopen the final full week of next month.
Beshear met with Dr. Deborah Birx of the White House Coronavirus Task Force on Sunday and the restaurant/bar recommendations were discussed.
The 30-day mandatory mask mandate went into effect on July 10th; Beshear also ordered non-commercial gatherings to cut back to 10 or fewer persons on July 20th.
As of Monday, Kentucky's COVID-19 increased positivity rate stood at 5.58 percent. The number is based on a 7-day rolling average.
Here's is Governor Beshear's press update from Monday:
