
Kentucky-Shot Family Film ‘Kangaroo Kids’ Finally Reaches Audiences
Kentucky has seemingly become a hotbed for filmmaking over the last four years. There have many films shot in Kentucky over the last century, but it's really revved up since 2022 when the thriller Red Right Hand, starring Orlando Bloom, was shooting in Campbellsburg.
Next came Ethan Hawke's Wildcat followed by a multiple Christmas movies being filmed in Somerset and right here in Owensboro. And soon, Henderson will be ground zero for a holiday film shoot.
Kangaroo Kids -- Family Film Shot in Kentucky
Back in 2023, Richmond Family Films and Sunn Stream Productions set up shop in south central Kentucky, in the Horse Cave/Glasgow area, to shoot a family film called Kangaroo Kids. As you might have guessed, part of the action was filmed at Kentucky Down Under.
Per the press release from Scatena & Rosner Films, the reason for the long delay...
Originally slated for release in 2023 through the now-defunct Sunn Stream OTT platform, the film ultimately never reached audiences. Scatena & Rosner Films stepped in to complete post-production and will now handle North American and Latin American distribution, as well as international sales - ensuring the film's long awaited debut reaches families worldwide.
In Kangaroo Kids, orphaned teen Johnny befriends a kangaroo that ultimately becomes the target of a con man who hires three hapless thieves to steal the valuable creature.
Soon, Johnny and her friends are swept up in an caper in which they must stop the bumbling criminals while trying to prevent the bank from foreclosing on the zoo where the animal lives. Here's the trailer...
Where to See Kangaroo Kids
The family adventure, thanks to its new production company, has now found a home on multiple streaming services and is set to premiere on iTunes/Apple TV, Google Play, and Amazon Prime Video.
It's projects like this one that have me searching "films shooting in Kentucky" on a regular basis. I look forward to my next discovery.
