Opening day of the 2019 Kentucky State Fair is Thursday. I've only been once, but I can testify getting into the parking lot before you hit the midway is no easy task.

While there will be the normal navigational issues, there is a new road closure that will affect guests on weekends at the state fair. The Louisville Metro Police Department will be shutting down Phillips Lane between Gate 1 and Preston Highway in an attempt to help with traffic flow. Gates 1, 2, 4, and 6 will be your points of entry for general admission at the Kentucky Exposition Center.

Here is where those gates are located:

  • Gate 2 – South Crittenden Drive, 3901 Crittenden Dr.
  • Gate 3 – South Crittenden Drive, 3741 Crittenden Dr. (Express Lane Only Friday-Sunday)
  • Gate 4 – North Crittenden Drive, 2801 Crittenden Dr.
  • Gate 6 – Preston Highway, 3328 Preston Hwy

If you have purchased prepaid admission and parking, your traffic woes will be partially taken care of. The Express Lane at Gate 3 will only be open Friday through Sunday.

Some good news, there will be more parking available this year due to the demolition of Cardinal Stadium and the Department of Transportation buildings; and there will also be improved parking services for those with disabilities.

The fair will run August 15- August 25. More on parking and purchasing parking passes can be found HERE.

And don't forget, Chad and Angel will be broadcasting live for opening day this Thursday on 92.5 WBKR!
