Kentucky State Police, OPD Searching for Armed Suspect on Owensboro’s West Side
On Monday, May 24th, 2021, the Kentucky State Police and the Owensboro Police Department received a tip about a stolen vehicle present at Wingfield Inn & Suites on West Parrish Avenue.
When I spoke with KSP Trooper Corey King, he told me that the vehicle was in the possession of 41-year-old Sandy Thompson, whom the KSP believes is from the Owensboro area. Thompson goes by the nickname "Slim."
When officers arrived at the hotel, they went to a room on the second floor and made contact with Thompson, at which time he brandished a pistol. As soon as he drew his gun, one of the officers fired HIS weapon. No one was injured.
Immediately following the confrontation, Thompson leaped from his second-story window and escaped.
He was last seen on foot running east on Parrish Avenue and cutting in behind the Five Star convenience store.
Trooper King says he was headed in the direction of the airport. The police dog tracked him to Centre Court, that enormous tennis complex on Bittel Road, but Thompson eluded capture and is still at large.
He is considered armed and dangerous and the Kentucky State Police urge everyone to lock up their homes and vehicles and share any helpful information by calling KSP Post 16 at 270-826-3312. You may also call Crime Stoppers at 270-687-8484.
