CrimeGrade.org Ranks Owensboro’s Safest and Most Dangerous Neighborhoods
I'd guess that most people, if they've lived where they do long enough, have a good idea of the safest and most dangerous parts of their cities and towns. At the very least, they think they do.
U.S. Crime Rates
Based on 2025 crime data, the FBI reports that the overall U.S. crime rate has been on the decline. Violent crimes were down 9.3%, while property crimes dropped at a rate of 12.4%. The FBI's crime data explorer goes on to enumerate the exact number of violent and property crimes recorded last year. It also ticks off violent and property crimes and lists how often they occur. It's fascinating and valuable information, but what if you were looking for something more specific?
CrimeGrade.org
The website CrimeGrade.org answers that question by mapping out the safest and most dangerous neighborhoods in every American city. All you need to know is the ZIP code of the area in which you are interested. You then enter that ZIP code, and you will get a color-coded map that details the information you're looking for. And it's not just for major cities. No matter how small the city or town, CrimeGrade.org will give you what you want. You can find all United States ZIP codes here. I entered one of Owensboro's ZIP codes on June 5th, 2026, and here's what I got.

As you can see, northern and southern sections of Owensboro get an F, while southwestern parts of the city land somewhere in the "neighborhood" of a B. As you can see, there aren't very many areas within the city limits coded in A+ green. Unfortunately, it all averages out to a C- for Owensboro. Keep in mind that this map represents overall crime; click the tabs on CrimeGrade's Owensboro page for more specific information.
Also, there's this. The CrimeGrade maps aren't really a snapshot in time; they're more of a projection of what a "typical year" might look like.
Still, it's a handy and interesting website to bookmark and, perhaps, reference for out-of-town visits as well.
