KHSAA Changing State Baseball and Softball Tournament Formats
Jack C. Fisher Park in Owensboro has hosted the KHSAA Girls Fast Pitch State Tournament for over 20 years. This may change in 2019.
In February, the KHSAA approved a change to move baseball to a semi-state format and therefore, in the case of the state softball tournament, it would become single elimination. The state softball tournament up until now has been double elimination.
Instead, a semi-state format will be played among four different regionals where a best two out of three series would send 8 winners to state instead of 16. The state is normally divided, in the case of basketball, into 16 regions.
The state baseball tournament will remain at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington with dates set for June 5-8. Dates have been determined for the state softball tournament, June 6-8, but a site has not yet been selected.
According to the Lexington-Herald Leader, the state softball tournament, at this time, is not expected to return to Owensboro.
