October may be Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, but fundraising is important every month of the year for non-profits like the OASIS Shelter. Everyone deserves a relationship free from domestic violence. In my early 20's, I was a victim. It was a hard year in my life. I was so young and didn't understand what was happening. I knew how I was treated was wrong, but I felt helpless to stop it. I felt shame and didn't tell anyone. Luckily, after eight months of abuse, I found my way out. Not everyone is so lucky. According to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, women ages 18 to 24 and 25 to 34 generally experience the highest rates of intimate partner violence. Fortunately, there's help.

THE OASIS SHELTER MISSION

The OASIS Shelter is an advocacy organization that helps abuse victims in Daviess, Henderson, Union, Webster, Ohio, Hancock, and McLean Counties. They raise awareness to educate the community in combating domestic violence. Last year, OASIS served 1,603 clients between shelter and non-residential. They provided emergency shelter to 225 women and children.

"OASIS Women’s Shelter is a Domestic Violence Program for battered women and their dependent children. OASIS addresses the unique needs of victims of domestic violence trapped in the cycle of violence.

Located in Owensboro, Kentucky, and built on the “Empowerment Model”, OASIS provides a safe place for women and their children to escape the trauma and devastation of domestic violence."
